The main goal of the Estonian Society of Transfusion Medicine (ETMS) is to introduce and implement the principles of evidence-based transfusiology, or blood management, in Estonia.

The society participates in the development of Estonia’s transfusion medicine healthcare policy and legislation in cooperation with other professional societies and organizations, as well as the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Health Insurance Fund.

The membership of the association consists of doctors, nurses, midwives, and specialists working in the field of transfusiology across Estonia.

ETMS was established as a non-profit organization on January 13, 2004. The association is the legal successor of the Estonian Blood Service Society, founded in 1995.

The hand holding the blood vessel, which serves as the logo of the society, symbolizes the main principle of modern transfusiology, which confirms that the most valuable is the patient’s own blood, which medical professionals must keep using all available means.
